🚫 Never Pay in Advance

Paying any deposit before seeing the vehicle in person is the #1 cause of fraud. No legitimate seller requires advance payment to "hold" a vehicle.

👀 Always Inspect in Person

Meet the seller, see the vehicle, and inspect it thoroughly. Bring a mechanic friend if possible. Test drive before agreeing to anything.

📄 Verify All Documents

Check the registration certificate (CR book) matches the seller's NIC. Verify ownership history at the Department of Motor Traffic. Look for any liens or pending fines.

🤝 Meet in Public Places

First meeting should be in a busy, public location during the daytime. Bring a friend along.

💵 Safe Payment

Use bank transfers traceable to a verified account. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash. Get a written receipt for any payment.

🚨 Red Flags

Sellers who refuse in-person meetings. Prices significantly below market. Pressure to pay immediately. Sellers "abroad" who can't show the vehicle. Requests for unusual payment methods (gift cards, crypto).
